Belladonna “Ghost Widow” Vetrano

Personality: Ghost Widow was ambitious and manipulative when she was alive, and 300 or so years of haunting Hogwarts have only seen her become more sadistic. She delights in tormenting anyone who crosses her path – regardless of their House. Very few ever gain positive attention from her, and those who do must prove themselves worthy.

History:Belladonna was born to a family of noble blood some 325 years ago. The house of Vetrano had relocated to England from Italy some generations earlier and had become established as a powerful family of dark magicians and blood purists, respected – and feared – throughout Europe. Belladonna was one of five children, each sorted into Slytherin like every other member of her family, but she was by far the most talented, and the most ambitious.

After a proud career as Prefect and Head Girl, Belladonna graduated Hogwarts with flying colours. In her time there she had a long standing interest in Branimus Sinclair, a fellow Slytherin who shared her beliefs in pureblood superiority. They both made Prefect in their Fifth and Sixth years, and in Seventh Belladonna enjoyed the position of Head Girl – Branimus remained a Prefect.

She transitioned to a career at the Ministry, working as an Auror whose reputation for good work and efficiency earned her a great deal of respect. At just twenty one years old, she was considered the greatest Auror in the Ministry's service.

Belladonna came to be called the Black Widow. Ruthless, intelligent and an expert in the Dark Arts, Belladonna was assigned to some of the most dangerous missions, specializing in working undercover and infiltrating dark wizard circles. She rapidly ascended the ranks of the Aurors, quickly developing a reputation as the most efficient and terrifying. Her skills in manipulation served her well.

She died at age twenty five. An undercover job on a smuggling warehouse for Dark artifacts went awry, Ghost Widow's cover blown. She took most of the enemies down with her and the warehouse – and a good number of the artifacts inside were completely destroyed. It was unknown what the nature of some of those artifacts were, but Belladonna's ghost has since been bound to Hogwarts.

Over the last 300 years she has dwelled there, her bitterness and sadistic tendencies escalating as her anger about dying subsided a little – just a little. Her wicked tongue and lies have tormented students for centuries. She says she's toughening them up for the realities of the outside world (and getting some well deserved entertainment, of course.)
